I installed the package from the MySQL web site without problem.
  http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/mysql/5.0.html#macosx-dmg

I used the 5.0.x version for compatibility with my deployment servers,
but there are packages for 4.1.x and 5.1.x if you prefer.
