[WelMac] Purchasing my first iMac

Hi Jamie

I was like you about 18 months ago - bought my first ever Mac - didn't know what to expect with regard to how complicated it might be to mentally switch from one operating system to another. I'd heard so many good things about Macs - so i finally took the plunge. I'm so pleased i did. I have had 18 months of trouble free use - unlike my windows system which always seemed to end up in service at great expense. The switch took me about 3 months before i felt "at one" with everything - and i still run Windows for one or two things i need via Parallels.

I purchased my Mac Book Core 2 Duo from Noel Leemings Link Drive North Shore - attracted to the Fly Buys points too - plus i got quite a good discount as it was a day before Christmas and they were keen to get the sale - i have no complaints about their service - but i don't think they would have been aable to answer too many tech questions - had i needed to ask. I got the feeling they were on to their next sale once i walked out the door if you know what i mean.

If you're looking to save a bundle and get a fully guaranteed "as brand new mac" - then i suggest you contact - http://wireddog.co.nz/ - . I used them once last year for an issue i had with my Vodem connection (not a computer issue) and they were excellent and reasonably priced. While they were doing my work - one of the owners was telling me that he has access to "as brand new" Macs from the Apple importers that may have been returned under warranty and repaired - or sometimes they are simply ex-display, ex-show etc etc - the models available vary depending on what is in stock at any given time - but the savings were huge $1- $2000 off the retail price depending on the model. I intend to do this next time i buy - as they come with full factory warranty and secondary warranty from Wired Dog. Worth looking into my friend.

Also - have you thought of looking for a very near new or new one on Trademe - I've seen some big savings there too - there was a beauty there recently that went for half the retail price - couldn't believe it - or maybe i could in these cash strapped times.

Hope all of this is some help to you and good luck....

Brett M

I bought mine from Noel Leeming

One bonus is that you'd get a lot of Fly Buys points if you bought it
during a "triple" or "quadruple" points deal :)

    6. Someone else... is there anyone else?

I am by no means wanting to start a war or a 'slagging match'
here but would welcome any genuine experiences in dealing with
any of these companies as to me this is a very major purchase.

    Cheers
