I've enabled topics for the list, which means you can filter out specific categories of email
So far I've hastily created three:
NMG for new media group
Helpdesk for user support and help
DVG for the digital video group.
You can leave your subscription as "all" or select one or more categories you want. There is also an option to choose if you want "other" email - that doesn't fit into the categories. By default you get it all, and only if you choose a category will the second option about "other" email become relevant
See http://nzmac.org/mailman/options/welmac_nzmac.org
And check the options for
"Which topic categories would you like to subscribe to?" and
"Do you want to receive messages that do not match any topic filter?"
If you have an suggestions for further categories let me know. The way they work is by keywords or regular expressions. Each email gets scanned, and if the first few lines of the message include one of the keywords it adds it to that topic... so email me your thoughts. I was thinking of adding a news/announcements category and a few others - much like the different forums.
The reason I've added this functionality is to see if it is feasible for users to dip thier toe in a email list, and not have to read all the posts everyday -- only those that are of interest to them. We could easily add a "random social chatter" category and then start using the list more without fear of cluttering up people who just want to hear about, say, meeting announcements.
Enjoy!
