Subject: Hi Jo. Connecting 2 iBooks Q, one not in good nick!

Hi thought you might be able to help me with my titular problem.

Here are the steps taken so far...

1. Black Rectangle on Screen "Crash" - iBook.
2. Restart... only goes to grey screen with apple logo.
3. Put in Tiger CD to archive and reinstall - as don't have backups
of my emails and other stuff that I want to keep.
4. Thought there was enough space to arch. and reinstall but just as
getting to end comp. said "error not enough space or words to that
effect".
5. Tried again but this time got a message saying not enough space
avail (so it must have said I had enough space avail. first time
around as it let me continue - grrr).
6. So still wanting to save my stuff I got in touch with Yomcat for
first time in months (i've been away), as he'd awesomely kindly
helped me out with a similar prob last year, and a couple of other
probs. I was trying to remember the software he used last year to get
me out of asimilar jam. Tinkertool was his answer.
7. However I couldn't remember what to do from that point.
8. So called Shop. Tech Support at the shop said to fire up dud
laptop on "Target Disc Mode" and run firewire between it and other
iBook and transfer things across.
9. Realised a. I don't have a firewire cable and that b. If I used my
ethernet instead (which when I called back sounded like an
alternative option) that c. I might not be able to see the contents
of the dud iBook on my other iBook as the dud iBook will not load up
to the Finder screen.
10. So, wishing to save a bill of $240 for bringing it in to the Shop
I was wondering if someone could instruct me on how to actually
complete this process please.
11. I would be happy to drive to ya house and learn the process, or
hear it over the phone and do it live, if writing it out is too long
winded - probably better live in any case, in case I make an
inevitable mistake. I live in Kelburn but happy to travel anywhere.

Hope you can be of assistance. Not sure if this Forum will tell me
when a reply is posted so please contact me on richardckerr AT
yahoo . Com if you do post something as I would like to have this
fixed by monday. Though I will check here each day.

Thought I should post this to the forum too to share the love, in
case you are too busy. Cheers.

Thanks, Rich.
