iMac/PowerMac G4? Or Laptop?
The Apple solution for Backup is bandwidth and a .Mac account
http://www.apple.com/dotmac/
You can backup to an iPod, or an external Hard Drive, or just write a
CD or DVD with your critical stuff on it.
But it all depends what you need to backup and why.
An excellent eBook on Mac Backup is the Take Control one...

I have a copy i've been know to bring to meetings of WelMac...
Software such as Carbon Copy Cloner isgood for making copies of whole
systems:

I personally use Retrospect - at work it's to a Backup Tape, and at
home to an external Hard Drive via USB.. with DVDs of archived stuff
that doesn't change.. (photos/movies/music)
Hope that gives you a quick overview...
